The existence of H.Floresiensis suggests that even very primitive
morphological platforms of hominid had the capacity to survive - this
really means we stopped needing to evolve a long time ago. If
we take modern sapiens out of the picture, it looks to me like a much
more natural diversification of stable morphology - it's when we include
modern sapiens that the neanderthal, ergaster, early erectus etc, seem
likely to have been superseded by superior evolutionary traits. That
Floresiensis exists at all suggests we should be swamped in fossilized
varieties of the homo genus since it's departure from apes!
